What is ‘responsibility’?

Your responsibility in a flatted building doesn’t just extend to paying for common repairs.

If you are responsible for maintaining a part of a building you are required to:

  • keep it in good order, so as not to cause damage to neighbours’ property and to provide support and shelter for the building as a whole
  • this applies to items which are individual responsibility as well as mutual or common elements of the building
  • pay your share of common costs
