Financing Repairs and Retrofit: Read our toolkit

Repairing or retrofitting tenement buildings can be an expensive and complicated process.

Many of Scotland’s tenement owners want to carry out repairs, or retrofit their building to make it more energy-efficient, but lack the money and the information on how to plan ahead.

Our 2026 toolkit gives tenement owners the knowledge they need to explore funding for tenement repair and retrofit projects.

Written by expert housing consultant Gillian Campbell, and published by Under One Roof with help from The MCS Foundation, the toolkit explores many funding solutions for a wide variety of repair and retrofit scenarios. It gives information on how to work with your neighbours to plan and save up together. It also has a guide to grants and loans offered by Home Energy Scotland and Warmer Homes Scotland, if you would like to improve your building’s energy efficiency. Our toolkit also contains a detailed guide to Schemes of Assistance offered by local authorities, covering every council area in Scotland.

This toolkit will help empower you to consider possible funding solutions which best suit your repair and retrofit needs.

Please fill in the survey below – once you have, a download link for the toolkit will appear.

Are you a member of an owners' association?
Why are we asking for this information?

Under One Roof is building a first-of-its-kind database of owners’ associations across Scotland. This database will help us share examples and data with politicians and the wider public so we can better make the case for why flat owners need more support. With this information (and with your permission to contact you) our charity will also be able to immediately send updates on financial support, legislative changes, and other resources that will help you and your fellow owners with building maintenance, repair, and retrofit.

Most importantly, Under One Roof won't pass your personal details on to anyone without your explicit consent, and you can withdraw from our database by contacting us at info@underoneroof.scot.

Please select all that apply to your owners’ association
I agree that Under One Roof may contact me from time-to-time to share information and for research purposes. Under One Roof will not share your name or contact details to any third parties without your explicit consent. You may ask for your details to be removed from our database at any time by emailing info@underoneroof.scot.
